Roxor has released a couple of solid Megaways titles before this one, and most notably the visually stunning Secrets of the Phoenix Megaways. Double Bubble Megaways is loosely based on their popular 2006 release, Double Bubble, but the multiplier bubble line feature is not carried over. Neither is the multiplier pick’em bonus game, although the jackpot/free spins bubble pick bears some resemblance.

Visually, the 2 games are more or less the same though, except for the size of the reels and the added Bubble Mania machine on the left-hand side. It will pump in symbols to increase bubble symbol wins, as well as provide plenty of extra wilds during the bonus round. Players looking for a simpler fruity Megaways experience with no progressive multiplier, nor cascading wins, might wanna check this one out.

Double Bubble Megaways Features

The pink bubbly wild steps in for all regular pay symbols, and this helps you form winning combinations. In a somewhat unusual twist, there is no Cascading Wins feature in this Megaways title, but you do get the occasional Bubble Mania trigger.

Regular symbols will sometimes land marked with bubbles, like the wild always has. If you form a winning combo with only bubbly symbols (including wilds), you trigger the Bubble Mania machine you’ll see on the left-hand side.

After the regular win calculation, the bubble machine pumps extra matching bubbly symbols onto the reels, which means you can look forward to a bigger win.

The Bonus Round is triggered when you land 3+ bonus scatters anywhere in sight, and you’ll then pop bubbles to see how many free spins you get. The number of free spins contained in the 3 bubbles are higher the more scatters you landed to trigger the feature. 4 scatters got us 13 and 15 spins in the bubbles, which gives you an idea about what to expect.

The bubble mania machine is active on almost every spin during the bonus round, pumping a random number of bubbly wilds onto the reels. The progressive jackpot seeds at £25,000, and it can be won only when you pick your bubble to determine how many free spins you get. Higher bet sizes will increase your jackpot chances, but no stats are given about this.

We landed some smaller initial wins, but around 0:50 we triggered the Bubblemania feature with the decently valued watermelon symbol. Review Summary

Roxor has proven before that they know how to handle the Megaways engine, but this is a simpler release than the 2 previous efforts. With no cascading wins, you’re totally at the mercy of the Megaways in the base game. However, the Bubble Mania feature will come in handy at times to keep you afloat with larger payouts.

The bonus round comes with the added excitement of popping the jackpot bubble, and it certainly makes you cross your fingers for as many retriggers as possible. You get plenty of added wilds during the free spins, but they are far from being a guarantee for larger payouts. The lighthearted, bubbly facade covers up the beast lurking underneath pretty well, but high volatility combined with a below-average RTP can be brutal.
