We are not sure if too many players remember Tropical Tiki that Pragmatic Play released back in mid 2022, but the busy-scheduled developer has decided to release a reskin follow-up. Frogs & Bugs is the exact same game, and the 6x3 grid is placed in the middle of a pond at night. The reels are filled with frogs and fruits actually, and the only bug in sight is depicted on the scatter symbol. The visuals are decent enough anyhow, but there is nothing new to see here outside of the skin.

The winning symbols accumulate per tumble as before, and scatters also accumulate to possibly trigger the bonus round. The grid expands with 2 extra rows in the feature, but these come with blocked positions. The positions are unblocked one by one at random per free spin, and you can win up to 3,000x your stake also in this follow-up. Overall, we are a bit disappointed by the wasted opportunity for improvements, but at least players now have a choice between two themes.

There are no Wild symbols in this game, but the low symbol values are somewhat augmented by the 729 ways to win system.

Even more so via the Winning Symbols Tumble feature, which is the central feature in this game. Winning symbols drop to the lowest possible position as all other symbols except scatter symbols are removed. This means that the number of win ways increases per spin, and up to 8 positions can be unlocked at best since there are no ways to win extra spins.

Review Summary

Both the Tiki theme from the original game, and the frogs theme Pragmatic Play has come up with this time, has its charm for sure, but both are also on the simpler side of what we know this developer is capable of. Pragmatic had a chance to build on the first game instead of releasing a simple reskin job, but that chance has been wasted. The winning symbols tumble feature is still somewhat entertaining though, but why not throw some kind of multiplier system into the mix as well to spice things up.

The symbol values are pretty low after all, so a multiplier seems like a good idea if there is a future follow-up. It still doesn’t make sense that you can unlock only 8 of 12 positions in the bonus round, and the possibility of getting extra spins would have amended that issue.

It is what it is, however, and what it is is a decent, but mediocre, shelf-filler reskin that gives players a different option when it comes to the visuals. The 3,000x potential cements this impression, and it wouldn’t take too much effort to make solid improvements to this concept.
